Lake Como’s hotel scene has never looked more vibrant—or competitive. Tripadvisor alone lists 131 hotels with swimming pools, showing just how many properties are ready to cater to guests seeking a resort-style escape. These hotels, especially the luxury ones, often boast spectacular pools on the lakefront or nestled in terraced gardens, as well as spa facilities that make staying in as tempting as exploring.
The variety is impressive, ranging from grand icons to chic boutique retreats and family-friendly spots, ensuring that almost every traveler finds something to match their style and budget. However, when it comes to the crown jewels of Como’s hospitality, a handful of legendary names dominate attention. A combination of classic hotels with new openings is creating unique itineraries that blend heritage with fresh luxury experiences.
Villa d’Este, for example, continues to rank as a top choice, its lavish gardens and opulent interiors consistently drawing guests who want to experience true Italian grandeur. Passalacqua, another standout, has even been called the world’s best new hotel, thanks to its extraordinary design and ultra-personalized service.
Then there’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo, a colorful beacon of Art Nouveau elegance, where capacity is tested every summer as repeat visitors and new fans jostle for a coveted room. With these flagship hotels clustered along the lake’s most exclusive stretches, their limited number of rooms only increases the sense of urgency—and exclusivity—when booking. This limited supply of lakefront properties further exemplifies the competitive nature of the Lake Como real estate market.
Yet, relief is on the horizon. By 2026, Lake Como’s capacity will get a boost with the arrival of new luxury hotels like The Lake Como EDITION, which will add 148 rooms and suites, blending classic architecture with modern amenities like a “suspended pool.”
The Ritz-Carlton Bellagio is also set to debut, bringing more top-tier options. With such high-end openings, the tourism surge shows no signs of slowing, and property prices are expected to keep rising as investors and travelers alike compete for a piece of Lake Como’s timeless allure.
For now, it seems, the sparkle of the lake is only getting brighter.
